Mukwonago Animal Hospital has been caring for pets since 1983. Dr. Richard Ladewig established the practice and was a solo practitioner in the small building in front of the Elegant Farmer for 7 years. In 1990, Dr. Ladewig built at our current location, and Dr. Thomas Herlugson joined the practice in 1991. The “Log Cabin” Veterinary Clinic soon became a well-known landmark in Mukwonago. At that time, the practice was a mixed animal practice, and horses were sometimes cared for in stalls in the current basement level. As Mukwonago grew and the typical clientele changed, the practice transitioned to a small animal exclusive practice, and boarding kennels for dogs replaced the horse stalls in the basement. In 1999 and 2009 respectively, Dr. LeeAnne Sherrod and Dr. Danielle Bittner joined the practice. In 2015, Dr. Ladewig retired and sold the practice to Dr. Herlugson, Dr. Sherrod and Dr. Bittner. As the practice continues to grow, they have been joined by three associate veterinarians: Dr. Sara Thompson, Dr. Stacy Stengel and Dr. Dimitrije Bogunovic. Many of our current staff members have been here throughout the evolution of the practice and have been integral to its growth.
In 2018-19, the practice went through a major addition and renovation process almost doubling the working area of the practice and allowing updating to a state-of-the-art facility. The addition of a doggy daycare allows the hospital to continue to meet the needs of the community.
Mukwonago Animal Hospital has a well-deserved reputation of providing top quality medical care and excellent client service. We, as a team, all strive each day to preserve this reputation.
We offer many services to our clients and patients. Among these are: well patient care, radiology, surgery, ultrasonography, echocardiography, acupuncture, Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy, intensive care, dentistry, in-house laboratory, pharmacy, prescription diets, boarding, doggy daycare and select house call services for our clients.
We work closely with the local rescues and humane societies to aid in the welfare of animals. Our doctors have donated their time and services to these organizations, in addition to offering special programs such as our Veterans Day event ‘Vets Helping Vets” where we endeavor to help both animals and their families. We spend thousands of dollars each year caring for stray animals and finding homes for them. We also sponsor two scholarships at our local high school given to students with plans to go into the veterinary or animal related professions.
